Bob
and Doris House have been growing roses since 1980. Starting with just three
climbers, they increased the size of their rose garden over time to a peak of
over 1000 plants. They now grow approximately 500 Hybrid Teas and 200 miniatures
in the ground and in pots.
Bob and Doris are both ARS Consulting Rosarians and ARS Life Horticulture Judges. They enjoy exhibiting roses, starting with a half-frozen Beauty Secret at the Rose Society of the Ozarks’ show in 1982 (which received a red ribbon) and continuing through Jane Pauley which won Queen at the 1997 fall national show in Shreveport and Queen at the 1998 Central District show in Des Moines. Bob and Doris have also won the National Pacific trophy, the Hershey Bowl, the Rosedale Bowl, seven CENTRAL District J. Horace McFarland trophies, and two Central District Ralph Moore trophies. They have won 42 Queens (including one national and nine district Queens for Hybrid Tea and Miniature roses) with both district and local Queens being won in the CENTRAL, SOUTHCENTRAL and TENARKY districts and one Queen being won at a local society in the ILLINOIS-INDIANA District.
