Gary
and Monica have been growing a few roses for over 10 years, but became active in
the Huntington Rose Society (HRS) in the early 1990s. Since then, the number of
roses that they grow has increased from about 25 to around 300 rose bushes. They
have each been President of the Huntington Rose Society (HRS) and Rose
Show Chairs for the annual HRS rose show, and have held a variety of other
positions in the HRS. They have been the Editors for the HRS’s newsletter Thorny
Bush for the last four years. They are also Consulting Rosarians for the
American Rose Society and serve as local and on-line (ARS web site) consultants
about roses. For the last two years they have served on the American Rose
Society’s Product Evaluation Committee to evaluate new rose care
products. Both Monica and Gary are Professors of the Department of
Pharmacology at Marshall University School of Medicine. As you have
probably guessed, their research area is Toxicology.
