Amy Grant does an enormous amount of work for those who are less fortunate. She supports many charities with money, and more importantly, with her time. We are honoring Amy with a very special rose, and we also want to help with one of her favorite charities, Target House. at St. Jude Research Hospital for Children. In that spirit, for every Amy Grant rose we sell Nor`East Miniature Roses® will donate 50¢ to support the operation of The Target House.
Located in Memphis,Tennessee, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; was founded by Danny Thomas. The hospital treats approximately 150 children every day without regard to race, religion, creed or ability to pay. It was established to conduct basic and clinical research and to treat catastrophic childhood diseases, and is the largest childhood cancer research center in the United States. Since St. Jude opened in 1962, it has treated more than 15,000 children from across the United States and from 60 foreign countries. Information and research findings at St. Jude are freely shared with doctors and scientists all over the world.
Target House. opened in 1999 with 50 two-bedroom apartment suites and several common areas. In November 2002, Target House opened a major expansion, enabling St. Jude to meet 100 percent of its housing needs for patients requiring treatment of 90 days or more. The expansion made space for today's total of 98 apartment suites. Each apartment suite includes a kitchen, living room, bathroom and two bedrooms, all stocked with everything a family needs.
Target Stores and its vendor partners raised the initial $10 million to build The Target House, and will continue to raise funds to finance the ongoing maintenance of the facility. Amy Grant and her husband contributed the funds to furnish the music room, and the 50¢ we collect from the sale of each Amy Grant rose will be donated to support an equally important part of the facility.
